The Billericay Twinning Association (BTA) was formed in January 1998 to promote and foster friendship and understanding between the people of Billericay and other communities with which the Association may wish to form links in the future. The Association is recognised by the Local Government International Bureau (LGIB), the Authority responsible for twinning matters in Europe, Sister Cities International (SCI), a body with similar responsibilities in America and has the support, by association, of the Billericay Town Council whose Chairman is its ex-officio President. It is a non-local authority organisation in that it is self funded and receives no financial support from the Town Council.
